Siew Chien Ng - Biography#
Professor Siew Ng is Croucher Professor in Medical Sciences and Associate Dean (Research) of the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). She is globally renowned as a pioneer, innovator, and leader in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and microbiome medicine. She is Director of Microbiota I-Center (MagIC) and co-founder of two biotechnology companies that develop first-in-class microbiome diagnostics and therapeutics. Prof. Ng discovered novel microbial signatures for early diagnosis of colorectal cancer, IBD and neurodevelopmental disorders. She led GIVES-21 consortium to advance IBD epidemiology care across over 30 countries and 100 institutions. She is developing a 100K mother-baby longitudinal microbiome cohort in China for IBD prevention. She is a member of the highly prestigious International Organization for the study of IBD (IOIBD), an elite group of top 50 IBD leaders globally.
Prof. Ng has published over 450 papers in leading journals including Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Medicine, and The Lancet. She was elected a Foreign Member of Academia Europaea, the first female clinician-scientist awarded New Cornerstone Investigator in Chinese Mainland and received the Bank of China Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Prize. She has been named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate and ranked among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University for six consecutive years since 2020. She was awarded Joanna and David Sachar International Award and Visiting Professorship (Mount Sinai, New York), Sir Francis Avery Jones Award and Visiting Professorship (St Mark’s Hospital, London), as well as Cleveland Clinic IBD Global Visiting Professorship.
