Matthias Karmasin - Biography#


Professor Matthias Karmasin is since 2001 Full Professor and chair at the the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt. He is member of the Senate (vice chair until 2019), and member of the doctorates studies commission (vice chair until 2019).

Since 2013 he is also the Director of the Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Studies (CMC) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt.

He is a founding Member and between 2001-2013 the Academic Director of “Medienhaus Wien”.

Since the year 2000 he has led or collaborated in over 20 externally funded research projects on journalism, media economy, media and war, organisational communication, media ethics and media accountability. Many of these projects include international cooperating partners.

He figures frequently in the media in Austria, and his publications list includes 23 books, 33 Edited Volumes, over 70 peer reviewed articles and book chapters, and numerous non-peer-review articles and popular essays.
