Johannes Herrmann - Biography#

Johannes Herrmann is an international leader in mitochondrial biology and renowned for his groundbreaking research about the biogenesis of mitochondrial proteins. He discovered the fundamental principles by which proteins are inserted into the inner membrane of mitochondria and imported into the intermembrane space of mitochondria. He received his training as PhD student and postdoc in the laboratories of Walter Neupert at the LMU Munich and with Randy Schekman at University of California in Berkeley. His ca. 200 publications, received almost 20,000 citations and he has an h-Index of 80. He organized many international conferences and is strongly integrated into the scientific community. He served as president of the German Society of Biochemistryand Cell Biology, is member of several editorial boards and of the publishing committee of FEBS (Federation of European Biochemical Societies) and was chair of the panel for Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. In short, Johannes Herrmann is highly regarded as a leader in the scientific community with a very high reputation and visibility.
