Minyi Guo - Biography#


Dr. Minyi Guo received the BSc and ME degrees from Nanjing U, China in 1982 and 1986, and he received the PhD degree from U Tsukuba, Japan in 1998. He is currently chair professor and has been Head of Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), China. Before joining SJTU, Dr. Guo was professor and Department Chair of School of Computer Science and Engineering, U Aizu, Japan. Dr. Guo received the national science fund for distinguished young scholars from NSFC in 2007, was selected in the Recruitment Program of Global Experts in China in 2010, and was appointed as the Chief Scientist of the prestigious 973 Program in 2014.

His research spans parallel/distributed computing, compiler optimizations, cloud computing, database systems, and big data. Professor Guo has published 400+ papers, including about 150 in major journals and 250 in international conferences. The record includes 60+ papers in IEEE/ACM transactions and 100+ papers in prestigious conferences. He has also published 7 books. He has received 5 best/highlight paper awards from international conferences.

Dr. Guo has 28 licensed patents, some of which are transferred to industry, e.g., Alibaba. He won the 2019 State Technological Invention Award of China.

Dr. Guo had served as Department Head for ten years, managing a very successful department with 100+ faculty members and 1000+ students. In this capacity, he promoted the department to the top tier in China and the top 40 in the world (according to csrankings.org and QS world university rankings).

He is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, IEEE Transactions on Cloud Computing, and Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing. He has served as General/Program Chair of a IEEE conferences and has delivered keynote speeches at well-established conferences. Dr. Guo is a Fellow of IEEE, an ACM distinguished member, and a Fellow of CCF.
