Adrian Covic - Biography#


Prof. Covic started his clinical and research activity as a fellow in Nephrology in Manchester, Amiens and Cleveland, Ohio. Since 2007, he is a FRCP (London, Edinburgh), since 2016 FESC and became in 2009 a member of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences. From 2011 he is also a Fellow of the ERA EDTA (FERA).

Prof. Covic is a Professor of Nephrology and Internal Medicine at the “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Director of the Nephrology Clinic, Dialysis and Transplant Center in Iasi, Romania.

He published more than 730 original and review papers in peer-reviewed journals, 34 books. The current Hirsch Index is 74. He was an Associate Editor for NDT, and Editor in Chief (Nephrology) for the International Journal of Urology and Nephrology, and editor / reviewer for several significant journals.

His principal areas of interest are cardiovascular complications in renal disease, dialysis, CKD-MBD, renal anaemia, peritoneal dialysis, and acute renal failure.

Prof. Covic is the Vice-Rector (Research) of the University of Medicine “Grigore. T. Popa” Iasi, Romania and a past board member of ERA, KDIGO, ERBP, and ERA-EDTA working groups – EUDIAL, EURECAM and CKD-MBD.

Prof Covic has organized several regional European educational courses under the auspices of ERA-EDTA and ISN. For a mandate he has been chair of the ISN/COMGAN Eastern Europe and Secretary Treasurer of the ERA. He has served as president of the Romanian Society of Nephrology and Secretary Treasurer of ERA-EDTA

Prof. Covic has won numerous grants (total 2.260.555 €) the most prestigious was MAVIS-Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer and awards including in 2024, the highest price “Ana Aslan” for Medicine at the Romanian Research Gala organized by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization.
