Petrology, volcanology and geochemistry of volcanic system with the aims of elucidating: genetic processes of magmas, mantle composition, pre-eruptive mechanisms in active volcanoes, teprho-stratigraphy in recent and active volcanoes.

Volcanic rocks and magmatic systems in Italy, Spain, Greece, Libya, Yemen, Ethiopia, Mexico, and Antarctica have been investigated and they have been the topics of several scientific articles and reports, mainly published on major international journals of the field.

Development of methods for determination of major, trace and ultra-trace elements in geological (glass, minerals, rocks, fluids) and biological matrices (plants, wines, olive oils) through: X-Ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS), Instrumental Neutron Activation Analyses (INAA), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), Electron Probe Micro Analyses (EPMA).

Isotopic Analyses on whole rock and mineral samples through Thermal Ionisation Mass Spectrometry (TIMS); isotopic systems of expertise: 87Sr/86Sr, 143Nd/144Nd, 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb, 208Pb/204Pb, 230Th/232Th; 238U/232Th.
