John Collinge - Biography#
Academic Qualifications
Professor Collinge received his BSc in Pharmacology with First Class Honours from the University of Bristol in 1981, followed by the degrees of MB, ChB (1984) and MD (1992). He obtained MRCP (UK) in 1988 and was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 1998 and Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) in 1999. He became a Founder Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 1998 and was elected Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2005. He has received multiple honorary doctorates and fellowships, including Doctor of Science (honoris causa) from the University of Bristol and Honorary Fellowship of the American Neurological Association.
Honours and Awards
John Colling has received numerous prestigious awards recognising sustained excellence in clinical science and biomedical research. These include the Linacre Medal, Graham Bull Prize, Alfred Meyer Medal, Jean Hunter Prize, Roche Diagnostics Award, and the Howard Taylor Ricketts Medal. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by HM The Queen in 2004. He was appointed Inaugural Senior Investigator of the National Institute for Health Research, later achieving Emeritus status. He served on the Council of the Royal Society and holds a visiting professorship at Harvard University.
