Long-Qing Chen - Biography#
Chen is Evan Pugh University Professor, Hamer Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics, Mathematics, and Physics at The Pennsylvania State University. He is a member of US National Academy of Engineering, Foreign Member of Academy of Europe, and Guggenheim Fellow. He received his Ph.D. from MIT, M.S. from Stony Brook University, and B.S. from Zhejiang University. He is the author of a textbook on thermodynamics of materials and has published nearly 1,000 papers on the thermodynamics and phase-field method of phase transformations and microstructure evolution. He is a Clarivate Analytics Highly Cited Researcher in both Materials and Physics. He received the MRS Materials Theory Award, Humboldt Research Award, TMS John Bardeen, Cyril Smith, Hume-Rothery, and FMD Distinguished Scientist Awards, American Ceramic Society Ross Coffin Purdy Award, ASM International Silver Medal, and IEEE-UFFC Ferroelectrics Recognition and Distinguished Lecture Awards. He is a Fellow of TMS, MRS, AAAS, APS, ASM, and ACerS.
