Gérard Bossuat - Biography#

After some years in Morroco as Assitant in the University of Rabat, Gérard Bossuat came back to France. He then taught in a High School for eleven years as professor of History and Geography, while he prepared his Phd (promoteur: Prof. René Girault) which he defended in 1988. So he was elected as Associate professor in Contemporary History to the University of Paris-1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

During this time he created a master programme (DESS) to give special training to historians students for new jobs in connection with the French and European cultural heritage. He became Jean Monnet professor in 1993, then professor Jean Monnet ad personam, at the University of Cergy-Pontoise (France) where he initiated a new History department and developped studies on the European integration. In this very young university he was at the origin of two special areas for a new master: a research speciality devoted to the research in history of the European unity and a speciality of "Manager of European project".

He became member of the Liaison Group of the Historians near the European Communities (EU). He belonged to scientific or administrative staffs of the Jean Monnet Foundation (Lausanne), the Institut Pierre Mendes France (Paris), the Office universitaire de recherche socialiste (Paris). He is always member of a important research group, the UMR IRICE-Sorbonne (Paris-1, Paris-4, CNRS). He is a member of the publishing committee of scientfic reviews: Matériaux pour l'Histoire de notre temps (Paris-X, BDIC), Recherche socialiste (OURS-Paris), Journal of European Integration History.

Gérard Bossuat actually continues to provide new researches in history of the last century. His new projects are connected to the post-war generation of French « modernisateurs » compared to their European opposites, to Jean Monnet, banker then high officer for modernization and European unity and to an improvement of the perception of the European identity while many people take refuge in a deep but unfair protest against European intégration.
