• Photosynthesis (pigment-bind proteins, biogenesys of the photosynthetic apparatus, macromolecular organization of photosystems)
• Membrane protein folding (refolding in vitro of chromophore- binding chloroplast proteins, mutation analysis, steady state and time-resolved spectroscopy).
• Carotenoid biosynthesis and function (reverse genetics in Rice, Arabidopsis, Chamydomonas and Physcomitrella systems. Structure of carotenoid biosynthesis enzymes, mutation analysis.
• Bioenergy and biofuels. Regulation of light use efficiency. Excess energy dissipation, Genetic analysis and domestication of unicellular algae for improved growth and biofuel production.
