Farooq Azam - Biography#


Farooq Azam is a Emeritus Professor of Microbial Oceanography at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD. He did his Ph. D. in microbiology from Czechoslovak Academy of Science, Prague. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at Stony Brook University, New York, he moved to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography UCSD in 1969 where he has been studying the ecology and biogeochemical significance of marine microbes; coral microbiology, biochemical adaptations of marine bacteria; and the role of bacteria in marine food-web dynamics. Professor Azam has made seminal discoveries and has received many honors and award.
