Felicita Andreotti - Biography#

Felicita Andreotti is a nationally-certified full Professor in Cardiovascular Diseases and a Consultant Cardiologist at the Gemelli Catholic University Hospital in Rome, Italy.

Educated and trained in America and Europe, her M.D. and postgraduate theses investigated myocardial ischaemia in relation to mental stress, left ventricular heart failure, and procoagulant and fibrinolytic factors.

Initial practice was in Respiratory Medicine, then Cardiology and Lipidology, with Research and Lecturer jobs at London University Hammersmith Hospital, and then Professor and Medical Director jobs at the Catholic University Hospital in Rome.

Andreotti is known for solid contributions to the management of coronary artery disease patients, including elderly and female; for unique reviews integrating cardiology with haematology and endocrinology, and for original discoveries linked to acute myocardial infarction, such as the effects of preinfarction angina on speed of coronary thrombolysis (NEJM publication) and the 24-hour circadian variation of the fibrinolytic inhibitor, PAI-1, with peak plasma values at 3-6 AM (414 citations).

Andreotti has monitored the large ARRIVE, RE-DUAL, FOURIER and VESALIUS-CV randommized trials, is recipient of the Boehringer Ingelheim Research prize, and is active from the 1990s within the European Society of Cardiology (ESC).

Daily activities are patient management, laboratory organization, research supervision, teaching, editing and reviewing. Funding bodies include Dutch and British Heart Foundations, Italian Ministries and European Union. She has delivered >240 invited lectures (more than half abroad). With 345 articles in Scopus/Pubmed - including Lancet, NEJM, JAMA, BMJ - her Google scholar H-index as of Jan 2026 is 82.
