Award of the 2011 ERASMUS MEDAL to Professor Manuel Castells #

The Board of the Academia Europaea have issued the following information:
On 21 September 2011, at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, the Council of the Academia Europaea will be pleased to award an Erasmus Medal to the internationally renowned Social Scientist,
Professor Manuel Castells
The Erasmus Medal of the Academia Europaea, is awarded on the recommendation of the Council, to an scholar who has maintained over a sustained period, the highest level of international scholarship and recognition by peers.
Professor Castells will also deliver the 2011 Heinz-Nixdorf Erasmus Lecture:
“Communication Power: the Interface between Neural Networks and Digital Networks”
The Lecture and medal ceremony is open to the public and all interested researchers

The Academia Europaea ERASMUS Medal and Lecture 2011 has been sponsored by the Heinz-Nixdorf Foundation (see http://www.heinz-nixdorf-stiftung.de).
The Medal ceremony and lecture will form a part of the opening session of the 2011 Annual meeting of the Academia Euroapea. The conference is open to non-members and the theme for 2011 is “Chemistry, Sciences, Culture and Society in the making of Europe”. The meeting runs from 20 - 22 September at the headquarters building of UNESCO in Paris. The conference is linked with the UN International Year of Chemistry (http://www.chemistry2011.org) .
