Maurice Nivat

Maurice Nivat (1937 - 2017)#

Maurice Paul Nivat (21 December 1937 - 21 September 2017) was a French computer scientist and member of the section Informatics since 1989. His research spans the areas of formal languages, programming language semantics and discrete geometry. A 2006 citation for an honorary doctorate called Nivat one of the fathers of theoretical computer science. He was a Professor at the University Paris Diderot until 2001.

For his important scientific work, for having raised generations of brilliant scientists and for being one of the founding fathers of European theoretical computer science, founder of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science and of the journal Theoretical Computer Science, Maurice deserves the gratitude of the entire computer science community.
