Report on International Health Aid Under Threat: Scope and Challenges#
The French Academy of Sciences wishes to draw the attention of members of Academia Europaea to the report "International Health Aid Under Threat: Scope and Challenges".
The report highlights the growing risks affecting global health systems in a context of weakening multilateral cooperation and stresses that, while philanthropic funding plays an important role, it cannot replace coordinated public action within transparent governance frameworks. It also underlines the key responsibility of the European Union and the need for independent scientific expertise and inclusive international collaboration to preserve global health security.
We suggest that, as the Science Academies of EU member states, we collectively approach the European Commission to promote multilateral cooperation with countries in need for health assistance.
This could include, among other possibilities, the additional allocation of European funds, enhanced transnational interventions, as well as a strong support to the response, preparedness and treatment of pandemics.
