Professor Thede Kahl awarded honorary doctorate#

Professor Thede Kahl MAE, University of Jena, was awarded an honorary doctorate (Dr. h.c.) by the University of Bucharest in recognition of his “contribution to the study of the languages and identities of Southeastern Europe.” Professor Kahl was elected as member of the History and Archaeology Section of Academia Europaea in 2021.

About Thede Kahl#

Thede Kahl is Professor for Southern Slavic Studies and Southeastern European Studies and head of the Institute of South Slavic Studies in the University of Jena, Germany. His research focuses are the Slavs, endangered languages and dialects, minorities of the Balkans and Anatolia and other topics related to ethnography and ethnolinguistics. Prof. Kahl has received numerous awards, such as the "Distincția Culturală" diploma from the Romanian Academy. He is also a member of various organizations like the Austrian Academy of Sciences and editor and co-editor of the journal Symbolae Slavicae.
