Fraud alert: Phishing emails impersonating the Academy President#
The office of Academia Europaea has been made aware of a fraudulent email being sent to Members of our Academy. The email falsely claims to be from the President of the Academy, Professor Donald Dingwell, and requests assistance regarding a payment in the absence of the Academy treasurer. THIS IS A PHISHING ATTEMPT!
If you receive such a suspicious message:
- Do not respond.
- Do not click on any links or open attachments.
- Report the message to Dana Kaiser office@ae-info.org
The sender's email address is stated as president005board@gmail.com - this is a fake mail address which has nothing to do with Professor Dingwell or the Academy.
Text of the fraudulent mail:
Hi [name], I hope everything is going well with you.
I am reaching out to see if you might have some time to help us resolve a quick matter regarding AE. Your assistance would be incredibly appreciated to help get this sorted out.
Whenever you have a moment, please let me know your availability by replying directly to this email.
Thanks so much for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.
