Matthias Tschöp is the recipient of the 2026 Broermann Medical Innovation Award#
Matthias Tschöp MAE, physician, metabolism researcher and President of the Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich
, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Broermann Medical Innovation Award
. He will share the distinction with Svetlana Mojsov and Richard DiMarchi. Prof. Tschöp was elected as member of the Physiology and Neuroscience Section of Academia Europaea in 2016.

About the Broermann Medical Innovation Award#
Endowed with €1 million, the Broermann Medical Innovation Award was established in 2024 by Dr. Bernard große Broermann to advance breakthrough discoveries with the potential to benefit patients around the world. At its inaugural presentation in 2025, the prestigious award was conferred on the American scientists Professor Carl June of the University of Pennsylvania and Professor Michel Sadelain of Columbia University. They were recognized for their pioneering role in developing CAR T-cell therapy, which has transformed the treatment of cancer.
This year’s Laureates’ discoveries were essential for today’s transformative medicines against obesity and diabetes. Endowed with €1 million, the Broermann Medical Innovation Award is one of the world’s most prestigious medical science awards.
