Crisanto Gutiérrez awarded the 2026 Santiago Ramón y Cajal National Research Award#
Crisanto Gutiérrez MAE, Professor and researcher at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa
(CBM-CSIC/UAM), has been awarded the 2026 Santiago Ramón y Cajal National Research Award in Biology by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
The Santiago Ramón y Cajal National Research Award is one of Spain's highest distinctions for scientific research and recognises an outstanding research career and major contributions to the advancement of knowledge.
Professor Crisanto Gutiérrez
Crisanto Gutiérrez is recognised for an exceptional scientific career spanning several decades, during which his research has helped define fundamental concepts in cell and molecular biology. His work has made important contributions to our understanding of chromosome biology, cell proliferation and genome stability, and has had a significant impact on the development of these fields internationally.
Prof. Gutiérrez, elected as member of Academia Europaea in 2020, is presently the Section Chair of the Cell and Developmental Biology Section.
The award, announced by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) in July 2026, recognises his sustained scientific excellence and his contribution to advancing biological research.
