International Conference on CRAFTing Human-Tech-Society#

have a pleasure to announce the International Conference on CRAFTing Human-Tech-Society, an interdisciplinary event dedicated to exploring the relationships between humans, technology and society. The conference will bring together researchers, experts, and practitioners to reflect on how innovation can be shaped in a way that is socially responsible and aligned with human values.
The conference will take place in April 2026 (from 13 to 17 of April) and will focus on key challenges at the intersection of research, innovation, and societal impact. It aims to foster dialogue on how technological development can better respond to social needs and global challenges, while promoting responsible and sustainable approaches.
Although the conference itself is a closed event, two selected sessions featuring representatives of the Academia Europaea will be accessible online via livestream (Links down below).
CRAFTing human values in research, innovation and development#
14 April, 18:30–20:00 CETThis session will explore how human values can be effectively embedded in research and innovation processes. Among the invited speakers is Christina Garsten MAE, whose work focuses on organizational culture, globalization, and governance.
Christina Garsten is a Professor of Social Anthropology and former Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees of Academia Europaea. Her research addresses issues of transparency, accountability, and responsibility in organizations, particularly in transnational and corporate contexts. She has extensively studied how global governance frameworks influence institutional practices and societal outcomes.

CRAFTing metrics to assess true societal impact of innovation#
15 April, 9:00–10:30 a.m. CETThis session will focus on the development of metrics and frameworks to better evaluate the societal impact of innovation. A key speaker in this panel is Luke Georghiou MAE, a leading expert in innovation policy and research evaluation.
Professor Luke Georghiou is Associate Vice-President at the University of Manchester and a member of Academia Europaea. His work concentrates on the design and evaluation of research and innovation systems, including the development of policies that enhance their societal and economic impact. He has advised governments and international organizations on science and innovation strategy.
