Sølvi Sogner is by general acclaim the most eminent historian living and working in Norway and a major figure in European academia. She has enriched understanding of a wide range of historical subjects during the last 500 years and has also contributed to debate on contemporary issues, most notably the demographic history of Norway during the last century. Despite her personal modesty, her CV represents an awesome lifetime's achievement in scholarship, academic leadership, and public service.
