László Kiss - Biography#

Director General of the Research Centre for Astronomy and Earth Sciences and Research Professor at the Konkoly Observatory. Born in 1972 in Subotica (Yugoslavia). He received his PhD degree in 2000 and his DSc from MTA in 2008. He was elected a corresponding member of the MTA in 2013 and a full member in 2019. His field of expertise is astrophysics of stars and small celestial bodies. In 2009, after seven years of research in Australia, he founded a highly successful group with the support of the Lendület program of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on the structure and evolution of extra-solar planetary systems, based on theoretical work and data from the Kepler space telescope. Between 2012 and 2019 he worked on the preparation of the Cheops science programme, and from 2020 he continues his research using data from the telescope, now in orbit around the Earth. His results have been published in prestigious international journals, in more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, gaining more than 5000 independent citations. His Hirsch index is 46 (NASA ADS, 2023). He has 40 supervised students, eight of whom have PhD degrees and one a DSc of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
