Conference at the British Academy 20-21 May, 2009. Organizer and Initiator.

Organizer of 15 international conferences and workshops funded by the Leverhulme Research Interchange and the AHRC Global Arts Research Network. 2002-9 Organizer of 5 international conferences on Luxury and Consumption 1998-2003.

Organizer of panel sessions at the International Economic History Congresses in Milan (1994), Madrid (1998), Helsinki(2006), and Utrecht (2009)

Scientific Leadership and Service:

• 1998: Initiated the Warwick Eighteenth-Century Centre and the Luxury Project, and directed this until 2007.
• 2006: Initiated the Global History and Culture Centre (GHCC) which I directed until 2010. Ran international conferences, seminars, new MA programmes, and attracted PhD students, postdoc fellows and a number of external grants.
• Supervised 12 postdoctoral fellows, including one Marie Curie Fellow (Thébaud-Sorger)and 10 PhD students (3 completed in 2010). Currently supervising 3 postdoctoral fellows, a Museum fellow, and 4 PhD students (2 complete in 2011).
• Served on two Standing Committees and the Grants Board of the British Academy, proposing new Fellows and assessing major and small grant applications and postdoctoral fellowships.
• Served on the major Research Priorities Board of the ESRC as well as its Research Recognition and PhD Studentship panels.
• Took a leading part in framing and setting up the ESRCCultures of Consumption Programme.
• Served on funding panels of the AHRC.
• Served on the editorial boards of two journal
