What is Informatics?#
I believe there is no definition of "Informatics" that all members of the Informatics Section would agree on. One of the reasons is the diversity of the field, and the diversity of the areas the founders of the discipline came from: some from mathematics, others from electrical engineering, others from physics, others from a diversity of areas that were in need of using computers.
So let me extricate myself in four ways:
- by giving you the definition found in Wikipedia
- by presenting you the
views of some Informatics specialists and Informatics activities
- by listing the
keywords describing the activities of members of the Informatics Section
- by listing
conferences where our Section or some of its members were or are involved in in some way.
The Informatics Section or members thereof have co-sponsored or allowed to run high quality conference "under the auspices of Academia Europaea" in the past, and will continue to do so in the future. Please contact hmaurer@iicm.edu if you know of a conference in our area that is interested to get the official approval as high quality Informatics meeting. Here is a list of upcoming or past meetings with such official approval, all of them mentioning Academia Europaea in their announcements, programs and promotional material.
