New Frontiers in Informatics (NEFI) Workshop in Bergen, Norway September 11, 2012#

Prior to the General Assembly and the Annual Meeting of Academia Europaea the Informatics Section is organizing a workshop for all members of Academia Europaea who are interested to participate. There is no extra registration fee. Academia and particularly Informatics Section encourages all interested members to participate in the workshop!

Subject of NEFI:#

Informatics grows dynamically in our times and also affects many other sciences. Academia Europaea thus has decided to organize a Workshop on new frontiers and directions of Informatics. This is very timely and will help the field itself via the proposals and ideas to be announced at the Workshop. The talks are meant to be comprehensible for members of the Informatics Section who are not specialists in the particular area of the talks.

Other Information: #

The program committee consists of (in alphabetical order) Bergstra, Jan (U. Amsterdam) and Spirakis, Paul (Chair, U. Patras and CTI). To contact the Program Committee Chair Paul Spirakis use spirakis@cti.gr. Local Organisation is handled by Marc Bezem at marc.bezem@ii.uib.no from U. Bergen.

The venue of NEFI will be Studentsenteret, Parkveien 1, Nygardshoyden, 5007 Bergen. Seminar Room D.

Program of New Frontiers in Informatics (NEFI) workshop#

10.30-10.45 Coffee Break

12.00-13.00 Lunch Break

The workshop will start at 9 a.m., and will continue with coffee breaks and lunch break till around 14:00, so that participants can still come to the General Assembly and the Start of the annual meeting. Note that the program committee will allow only one presentation on a particular topic, and selection will be mainly on who submits a proposal on a particular topic first. We have probably enough time slots for all interested in giving a presentation, since we don't really expect more than 12 - 15 presentations based on previous experiences. No printed documentation of the talks is planned, but those who submit self-explanatory PPTs or PDFs will find them after the workshop on this server.

Proposals should show: Name, affiliation and e-Mail of person presenting, the title of the presentation and a short (half page)abstract. Please send proposals to Program Committee Chair Paul Spirakis spirakis@cti.gr as soon as possible, but by April 15, 2012 the latest. Please also let Paul Spirakis know if you plan to attend, but not to give a paper, so that the infrastructure can be organized appropriately. In both cases please mention NEFI in the subject line of your email.

We hope you will come as speaker or participant! Note that the Annual Conference is always interesting to attend, to hear from other Sections what they are involved in. To get the flavour, look e.g. at the report on the last one!
