!!Albert Zomaya - Biography

Dr. Zomaya is the Chair Professor of High Performance Computing & Networking and the Founding Director of the Centre for Distributed & High Performance Computing. Dr. Zomaya published more than 600 scientific papers and authored/edited more than 20 books. He is a highly respected scholar and as a result was elected as Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Computers (2011-2014) (a 70-year old journal and he was the first EIC from outside the USA). He is currently the Founding Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Computing and serves as an associate editor for 22 leading journals. Dr. Zomaya is highly visible in his field and he, to date, served in different capacities, on the committees of more than 700 IEEE and/or ACM sponsored or co-sponsored conferences and symposia. He delivered more than 180 keynote addresses, invited seminars, and media briefings.\\

In recognition of his many technical contributions, Dr. Zomaya received the IEEE Technical Committee on Parallel Processing Outstanding Service Award (2011), IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing Medal for Excellence in Scalable Computing (2011), IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award (2014), ACM MSWIM 2017 Reginald A. Fessenden Award, and other esteemed recognitions and several best paper awards. He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a Fellow of AAAS, IEEE, IET, and a Distinguished (Life) Member of the ACM.\\

Dr. Zomaya has been awarded more than $22M in project funding and consultancies from the Australian Research Council, CISCO, IBM, United Devices, SUN, Microsoft, DSTO, Australian Taxation Office, EU Frameworks, and others. In 2002 he was Technical Director for Adela Pty Ltd and in 2003/04 served1on the board of technical advisers for Phylogica Pty Ltd. Currently, working on a spin-off to deliver data analytic services over cloud/edge platforms.\\

Dr. Zomaya has supervised 11 postdoctoral researchers, 35 PhD completions, 19 Masters by research, and more than 50 Honours projects; and currently supervises 12 PhD students.\\ \\
