!!Xudong Zhao - Biography
\\
Zhao is distinguished for his academic leadership and pioneering work in renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency and building services to address global challenges in carbon neutrality and climate change. He has reached the world leading position in four research topics: (1) A super-performance dew point air cooling system with the world highest energy efficiency; (2) Hybrid solar heat & power systems with 30% higher solar efficiency; (3) Novel loop heat pipe leading to significant increase in heat transport capacity; (4) Double-source heat pump achieving over 30% increase in Coefficient of Performance (COP). These technologies were licensed to industries, applied to >200 engineering practices, created >£15m of sales, and were reported by a few public media, e.g. the UN Climate Change Congress and BBC TV.\\
\\
Zhao has undertaken 68 research projects with funding value of >£28m, managed 40 engineering consultancy projects worth £5 million, published 266 highly-cited journal papers, and supervised 31 post-doctoral research fellows and 41 PhD students. His groundbreaking work has resulted in 14 patents and 330 scientific papers, and has earned him a number of distinguished national/international innovation awards, including 2024 Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Energy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Newton Prize Finalist Award, UK Rushlight Innovation Award, and EU Dragon Star Innovation Award. Zhao is the Handling Editor of ‘Energy’ journal and Editorial Board Member of 8 other energy related journals, selected to the 2017 World Highly Cited Researcher, and 2020-2024 World Top 2% Scientists List. \\
\\
Zhao is (1) the Steering Committee Member of European District Heating/Cooling Technology Platform, contributing to development of digitalized heating systems in Europe for European Commission; (2) Executive Board Member of the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (WSSET), responsible for organization of newsletters for WSSET members; and (3) Member of the UK EPSRC Engineering Prioritisation Panel, involving decision making on the research grant award. Zhao involved the development of ‘A Comprehensive Guide to Solar Energy Systems (ISBN: 978-0-12-811479-7)’, and ‘Handbook of Energy Systems in Green Buildings (ISBN 978-3-662-49119-5)’. Zhao’s research results were included into ‘Air conditioning, air cooling and mechanical ventilation for buildings and the Building Regulations 2010 - Sanitation, hot water safety and water efficiency. \\
\\
Zhao is the Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng), Fellow of European Academy of (FEurASc) Sciences, Fellow of Energy Institute (FEI), Fellow of Charted Institution of Building Services Engineers (FCIBSE), and Fellow of the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technologies (FWSSET). He made great contributions in organization of the conferences and meetings held by these academic organizations.\\ \\[{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW edit xzhao}][{ALLOW upload xzhao}][{ALLOW comment All}]
