!!Espen Ytreberg - Biography

Espen Ytreberg completed his PhD in 1999. In 2001 he was engaged as a permanent faculty member at the Department of media and communication, becoming full Professor in 2003. In 2007-2008 he headed the Faculty of Humanities' Ph.D programme in media studies and journalism. From 2009 to 2012 he was Head of department at the Department of media and communication. He currently coordinates the common Faculty component of Ph.D education in the Humanities at the University of Oslo. Ytreberg has been a visiting researcher at CNRS-Paris, Université de Paris II and the Department of Communication Studies, University of Iowa.

From 2011-12, Ytreberg was co-leader (with Kjersti Thorbjørnsrud) of the Norwegian Research Council research project "Media and Migrations". From 2003-7, he was co-leader (with Trine Syvertsen) of the NRC research project "Participation and Play in Convergent Media", which was also supported by the European Research Council. In 2001-2 he headed the research project "Scheduling in Nordic public service television", funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers. Ytreberg has been co-editor of the Norwegian Journal of Media Studies, has been a plenary speaker for the Swedish and Finnish media studies association conferences, as well as at the Nordic media researchers' conference. Ytreberg is on the boards of Nordicom Review, Mediekultur and OberCom. He has reviewed articles for Theory Culture & Society, New Media and Society, European Journal of Communication, Television & New Media, Nordicom Review, Norwegian Journal of Media Studies, MedieKultur and OberCom.\\
