Model for Predicting Toxicities of Metals and Metalloids in Coastal Marine Environments Worldwide. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY, 2018, 52: 4199–4206. [[Google Scholar Citations: 10 times]\\

This study revealed the quantitative influence of temperature and salinity on the toxicity of metals and metalloids to eight marine organisms, and develop novel empirical models for predicting metal toxicity and effect threshold in different coastal waters around the world. The key findings of this study had been widely reported in international digital media: \\(e.g. [https://phys.org/news/2018-05-scientific-method-derive-quality-criteria.html]; \\[https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/05/180507111843.htm];\\[https://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2018-05/tuoh-nsm050718.php];\\[https://www.fondriest.com/news/developing-water-quality-criteria-for-toxicity-of-metals-and-metalloids-worldwide.htm])\\

\\
A novel dispersed magnesium oxide nanoflake-modified diatomite adsorbent (MOD) was developed for use in restoration of eutrophic lakes through effective adsorption and removal of excess phosphate from the water column. This new material and the phosphorus removal technology provide scientific values for mitigating eutrophic lakes and restoring the ecosystem therein.\\

Predicting water quality criteria for protecting aquatic life from physicochemical properties of metals or metalloids. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY, 2013, 47: 446-453. [[Google Scholar Citations: 69 times]\\
\\
Dr Wu and his team creatively established novel theoretical models based on the integration of quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR), interspecies correlation estimation (ICE) and biological ligand model (BLM). This study demonstrated that this new method can be successfully used to predict toxic effect thresholds to aquatic organisms and derive water quality criteria for 25 metals or metalloids. This paper was selected as one of the best articles out of over 1640 papers in Environmental Science & Technology (ES&T) in 2012. ES&T has been presenting a special honour for 3-4 excellent articles in both science and engineering fields annually since 1995. This was the first time for a Chinese mainland scientist to win this award in this category.\\

\\
It was the first viewpoint article of ES&T addressing the roadmap of development of the water quality criteria (WQC) system in China with consideration of global perspectives. As reflected by its citations, this paper is significant for the scientific research and management application of China’s WQC, and also for the process of regional and international environmental criteria research.\\

\\
This was one of the earlier research articles characterizing organic ligands for binding copper in stream and lake waters. It was the first time to equip an online 3DEEM detector in Immobilized Metal liquid Chromatography, using which both strong and weak copper-complexing ligands were successfully isolated from Lake Biwa in China. Significant correlations among molecular weight, fluorescence and polarity of ligands were discovered. As this article provides important insights for predicting the environmental behaviour, environmental fate, and toxicity of copper in aquatic environments, it has been well cited and used by other researchers in the field.\\
