!! Zhongchang Wang - Biography

Zhongchang Wang obtained his Ph.D. in 2008 from University of Tokyo in Japan. He thereafter spent two years (2008-2009) as research associate at the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR), Tohoku University in Japan and subsequently three years (2010-2013) as assistant professor. In 2013, he was promoted to associate professor at Tohoku University. From 2016 to 2017, he was also a visiting professor at University College London (UCL), UK. From 2017 to 2023, Dr. Wang worked at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Portugal as senior staff researcher (tenured) and research group leader. He is now a distinguished full professor (tenured) at School of Chemistry, Beihang University in China and holding a concurrent professor and dean at School of Materials and Energy, Southwest University, China. \\

His group is dedicated to developing new nanomaterials and heterosystems for electronic, electrochemical, magnetic, energy, information storage and sensing applications. His group also focuses on probing fundamental structure-property interplay of semiconductors and devices at atomic scale to fulfil atomic manipulation of quantum nanostructures for functional electronic and energy devices. By atomistic design upon first-principles calculations, his group aims to develop new quantum systems for ultrathin flexible information storage, intelligent sensing and power electronic devices. He is currently interested in atomical design and preparation of low-dimensional materials, nanomaterials and heterostructures for energy, electronic, and sensing devices.\\

He is elected member of Academia Europaea (MAE) and elected Member/Fellow of European Academy of Sciences (EurASc). He is also Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM), and International Association of Advanced Materials (FIAAM). He serves as vice president of Materials Research Society of Chongqing Municipal, China, and chief editor, associate editor and editorial board member for 17 scientific journals. \\

Zhongchang published +300 SCI-indexed peer-reviewed papers in Nature, Nat. Nanotech., Nat. Commun. etc. with +10 papers in Nature and its series, 2 book chapters, and has +14000 citations and H-index of 66. He has coordinated/participated +30 R&D projects from Europe, Japan and China, filled 20 national/international patents, and delivered +100 invited talks in scientific conferences and institutions. He has received +10 awards from Japan, China and Europe, e.g., “Young Scientist Award”, “NEC Tokin Science and Technology Award”, “Top Six Research Award in Nanotechnology”, “Outstanding Scientist Award”, “IAAM Scientist Medal”, “Advanced Materials Award”, and “2024 RSC Horizon Prize” and several talents academic titles such as “National Specially Appointed Professor”, “Chongqing Top-class Talents”, “Bayu Scholar Talents”, and “Xinjiang Tianchi Talents”.
