!!Ewout Steyerberg - Biography
\\
Prof Steyerberg is a worldwide recognized expert on clinical prediction research. His methodological areas of interest include biostatistics, cost-effectiveness, decision analysis, comparative effectiveness and quality of care research. He has made a lasting impact on prediction modeling through his very well-received textbook (2009), which has given an enormous boost to the standards in the field of prediction research. \\
\\
Throughout his career, Steyerberg has consistently translated more fundamental research findings to application domains. He defined which methods to apply in sound modeling approaches with the aim to truly support decision making for individual patients. A successful example is prostate cancer prediction, for which Steyerberg developed a set of prediction models that is commonly accessed ([https://www.prostaatwijzer.nl]); similarly, he developed models for the selection of candidates for Lynch syndrome testing ([http://premm.dfci.harvard.edu]). Both risk calculators are supported by various publications in top-clinical journals (JAMA, JCO, Eur Urol) and methodological publications (Stat Med, J Clin Epidemiol). Other areas of application include trauma; esophageal cancer; colorectal cancer; pediatrics and many other medical fields, where he developed successful prediction models with relatively advanced methods on large, high-quality data sets. Findings from well-designed and executed randomized controlled trials have impacted directly on clinical care, e.g. for esophageal cancer (CROSS trial) and stroke (MRCLEAN trial). \\
\\
Steyerberg has supervised 46 PhD students as promotor thus far; 8 as co-promotor; 15 PhD projects are in progress. He has acquired funding for his research from many sources, including Dutch (NOW, ZonMw), European (EU-FP7, EU-H2020) and international (NIH, PCORI, NTS foundation) funders.\\
\\
Steyerberg published over 1000 manuscripts, including 65 first and 187 last authorships (PubMed, December 2021). Since 2019 he has been described as a Highly Cited Researcher by Web of Science Clarivate; h-index = 161 at Google Scholar. \\
\\
Steyerberg is a member of the Royal Netherlands Society of Arts and Sciences (KNAW); the Society for Medical Decision Making (MDM); International Society for Clinical Biostatistics (ISCB); Netherlands Epidemiological Society. His is Associate Editor of Medical Decision Making and the European Journal of Clinical Investigation.\\ \\
