!!Jean-Luc Starck - Biography
\\
Dr. [Jean-Luc Starck|https://jstarck.cosmostat.org] is Director of Research at [CEA-Saclay|https://irfu.cea.fr/en/dap], France. He holds a Ph.D from Nice Observatory (1992) and a Habilitation from the University Paris XI. In 2010 he founded and has been leading since, the “[CosmoStat|https://www.cosmostat.org] lab” at CEA, an interdisciplinary research group, currently having 20 researchers. His group is performing cutting edge research at the interface between astrophysics, cosmology and statistics, with strong interests in applications for space missions as well as developing close industry-academia partnerships. He has been a frequent visitor of several institutions including ESO, UCLA, Stanford, the Flatiron Institute, and FORTH.
In 2011 his expertise along with his experience in management was recognized by the Science Board of the Euclid Space Telescope mission of ESA. From 2011 to 2025, he was appointed leader and coordinator of a Unit of 250 engineers and researchers responsible of providing the algorithms for the entire end-user scientific products of the Euclid space mission, which involves over 2000 members in 18 countries.
\\
Dr. Starck served as the first vice-president of the International Astrostatistics Association (2012-2018) and is a fellow since 2016. He has received the EADS prize of the French Academy of Science in 2011, the 2018 Gruber Prize in Cosmology (as a member of the ESA Planck team), the European Astronomical Society [Tycho Brahe medal|https://eas.unige.ch/tycho_brahe_medal.jsp] in 2022, the Space Foundation 2024 Space Achievement Award (as member of the ESA Euclid Consortium). In 2022 he was awarded the highly competitive ERA Chair in "Astroinformatics", in collaboration with the Institute of Computer Science and the Institute of Astrophysics and the Board of Directors of FORTH named him an [Honorary FORTH Fellow|https://www.ia.forth.gr/people/Starck]. Over the last 15 years, he has been awarded as Co-I or PI 11MEuros in competitive research funding including an Advanced ERC. \\
\\
He has published over 350 refereed papers in astrophysics, cosmology, signal processing and applied mathematics, which have received more than 137,000 citations ([source Google Scholar|https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=IAaAiXgAAAAJ&hl=en]), and he is also author of [three books|https://jstarck.cosmostat.org/publications/books]. Currently he is mainly interested in various aspects of cosmology and he is heavily involved in the Euclid space mission of ESA, which was launched in 2023.\\ \\
