*1966 - completing his studies in English philology with a Sofia University diploma (equivalent to M.A. degree)\\
*1967 - 1971 Postgraduate student of English literature at Sofia University, working on a dissertation on John Donne's reform of Elizabethan poetic imagery and beginning to teach seminar classes on Renaissance literature (spending the first academic year of the postgraduate course at Sussex University, UK, as an exchange student)\\
*1970-1971 Lector in Bulgarian language and literature at the School of Slavonic and East-European Studies, London University, UK\\
*1972 - public defence of the dissertation earning him the degree Candidate of Philological Sciences (equivalent to Ph.D.) Appointed Assistant-Professor at the Department of English Philology, Sofia University\\
*1978 - promoted to the rank of Associate Professor on the basis of accumulated publications and a book-size study of the Renaissance humanist mindset in Shakespeare's Sonnets\\
