Anton Sculean is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Periodontology and currently serves as Head of the Dental Research Center (DRC) at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland.\\
\\
He studied Dentistry at Semmelweis University, Budapest, where he obtained his DMD in 1990. He received his Dr. med. dent. degree from the University of Münster, Germany, in 1994, followed by a Master of Science in Periodontology from the Royal Dental College, Aarhus, Denmark, in 1997. In 1999, he was awarded the Specialist Degree in Periodontology by the German Society of Periodontology. He completed his Habilitation and was granted the Venia Legendi at the University of Saarland, Homburg, in 2001. In 2009, he received a PhD degree from the University of Szeged, Hungary, and is a board-certified periodontist of the Swiss Society of Periodontology.\\

Prof. Sculean has authored more than 620 articles in peer-reviewed journals, over 50 chapters in periodontal textbooks, and has delivered more than 1,000 lectures at national and international scientific meetings.\\

He is Editor-in-Chief of Periodontology 2000, the top-ranked journal in Dentistry, Oral Surgery, and Oral Medicine, and is currently listed as the top-rated expert in Periodontics worldwide (Expertscape). His h-index is 117 (Google Scholar) and 78 (Web of Science).\\

Prof. Sculean has received numerous prestigious honors and research awards, including the Distinguished Scientist Award from the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), the Eminence Award of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP), the Anthony Rizzo Young Investigator Award from the Periodontal Research Group (PRG) of the IADR, the IADR/PRG Award in Regenerative Periodontal Medicine, the Scientific Award of the Lasers & Bio-photonics Scientific Group of the IADR, and the IADR/PRG Award “Innovative Approaches to Prevention and Non-Surgical Treatment of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases”. He has also received the Distinguished Teacher Award from the European Orthodontic Society, Honorary Membership of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), and the Medal of Honour from the George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mureș, Romania.\\

He has been awarded multiple honorary doctorates (Dr. h.c.) by Victor Babeș University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timișoara, Romania; Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary; Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania; Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iași, Romania; and the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. He has also received the Fellowship in Dental Surgery ad hominem of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK (FRCSEd (ad hominem)).\\
