Jens-Michael Schröder graduated in Chemistry and made his PhD in Organic Chemistry. 1979 he moved as research scientist to the Dermatology Dpt. at the Kiel University Hospital. 1994 he was appointed as a professor for the Biochemistry of Inflammation and became head of a Clinical Research Unit “Cutaneous Inflammation” and is since 2015 in retirement. His scientific foci are the role of neutrophils and eosinophils in cutaneous inflammation, chemokines and other mediators of inflammation, the role of epithelial peptide antibiotics and protease inhibitors in epithelial defense and its regulation, and the role of the skin microbiota in psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.\\

Prof. Jens-Michael Schröder has published more than 413 original articles and has been member of the editorial or review board of several well-established journals. In 2002, he founded the collaborative research center (SFB) “Molecular Mechanisms of Epithelial Defense” and served 2011 as co-chair of a Gordon Research Conference on “Antimicrobial Peptides”. He received several prestigious awards and became 2004 elected member of the german National Academy of Sciences LEOPOLDINA.\\
