Andrew Rhodes is Professor of Anaesthesia and Critical Care at City St George’s, University of London, and a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He trained in South London and completed a research doctorate (MD Res) focused on the epidemiology and outcomes following surgery across Europe.\\
\\
His research interests include cardiovascular physiology, perioperative outcomes, sepsis, and pharmacology in critically ill patients. He has led numerous multi-centre randomized controlled trials published in leading, high-impact journals, shaping global clinical practice. With an H-index of 78 (Web of Science) and over 300 publications and books, his work reflects a deep commitment to evidence-based medicine and the use of robust data to improve patient outcomes.\\

Professor Rhodes has been a driving force behind international quality improvement initiatives. For more than a decade, he chaired the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, the largest global programme dedicated to improving sepsis care. Under his leadership, international clinical practice guidelines for sepsis and COVID-19 were developed—papers that rank among the most highly cited in medical literature. His expertise has influenced national policy worldwide, advising governments on implementing large-scale improvement programmes.\\

Beyond research, he has held prominent leadership roles, including President of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (2010–2012), Honorary Secretary of the European Board of Intensive Care Medicine (UEMS, Brussels), and Council Member of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine and Intensive Care Society (UK). He currently serves as Chief Medical Officer for Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board, Senior Independent Director for Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, and Chair of Trustees for the Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey & Sussex.\\
