!!Franz G. Rammerstorfer - Biography
\\
Franz G. Rammerstorfer received his Doctor degree in 1977, supervised by Professor Franz Ziegler at the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). During his time in industry (1977-1983) he became the head of Scientific Computing/Mechanics at VOEST Alpine in Linz, Austria. There he implemented nonlinear finite element methods for industrial applications in cooperation with E. Ramm, K.J. Bathe, D. Hibbitt and others. His scientific contributions led to his Habilitation (venia docendi) in Mechanics in 1982 and eventually to his appointment as Professor for Lightweight Structures and Aerospace Engineering (starting 1983). From 1991 to 1997 he co-chaired (together with F.D. Fischer), the Christian Doppler Laboratory “Micromechanics of Materials”, and 2003/2004 he was as Visiting Professor at the Institute for Material Mechanics at TU Munich. In the years 1998 to 2007 Rammerstorfer served as Vice Rector for Research at TU Wien. In the years 2007 to 2016 he acted as head of the Scientific Senate of the Christian Doppler Research Association (CDG), having awarded him as CD-Senior Fellow and 2016 as Honorary Senator. His election as corr. member (2001) and as full member (2005) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) and his awards as IACM Fellow and Viktor Kaplan Medal winner should also be mentioned.\\

Since October 2016 F.G. Rammerstorfer is continuing his academic activities as Professor emeritus.\\
\\
Rammerstorfer has been active in many international conferences not only as invited lecturer but he also organized or co-organized a large number of scientific symposia, conferences, and congresses, in the field of mechanics, among them the IUTAM Symposium on Discretization Methods in Structural Mechanics 1997 (with H.A. Mang), the WCCM 2002 (with H.A. Mang and J. Eberhardsteiner), and the ECCOMAS Congress 2012 (with H.J. Böhm and J. Eberhardsteiner). Furthermore, he served the international mechanics community by a number of functions he was given, as board member in EUROMECH, GAMM, CEACM (founding member and former vice president), ECCOMAS and IACM (via CEACM), Austrian Nat. Comm. Theor. Appl. Mech (current president), CISM (current rector) and as member of Editorial Boards of a large number of Journals in Mechanics as well as a reviewer for a large number of Journals related to Mechanics. \\
