Prof. Dijana Plaseska-Karanfilska has received her MD degree from the Medical Faculty in Skopje and Ph.D. from the Medical Faculty in Maastricht, the Netherlands. She is employed at the Research Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology "Georgi D Efremov", Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Skopje, N. Macedonia where she holds a position of Full Professor and Head of laboratories for Genomics and Molecular diagnostics. She is an honorary professor at the University "Ss. Cyril and Methodius", Skopje, and participates in lecturing of biomolecular subjects for undergraduate, master, and Ph.D. studies and specialization in clinical laboratory genetics. She has successfully mentored six Ph.D. and ten MSc students.\\

She has been engaged in the molecular diagnostics of inherited, malignant, and infectious diseases and has contributed to the molecular characterization of different monogenic diseases in Macedonia and translation of a number of molecular genetic tests to clinical practice. Her recent research interest focuses on breast cancer and rare disease.\\

She has coordinated several international and national scientific projects, including the EU FP7 REGPOT project that has strengthened the national research capacities in the fields of genomics and proteomics. She has published more than 140 papers in peer-reviewed journals, several book chapters and has participated in more than 160 presentations on different scientific events. \\

She is editor of the Balkan Journal of Medical Genetics, Deputy Editor of the Macedonian Medical Reviews, Section Editor of the EuroBiotech Journal, Member of the Editorial Board of Genetics and Applications, President of the Macedonian Society of Medical Genetics, Coordinator of the Macedonian ORPHANET team, coordinator for Macedonia in the European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association, a former member of the Board of the European Society of Human Genetics and COST Scientific Committee.\\ \\
