!!Duanqing Pei - Biography

Duanqing Pei dedicates himself to the understanding of cell fate control mostly inspired by the precision achieved through evolution that all individuals are derived from a fertilized egg in man, mouse or other higher mammals.  He developed this view from his training and working experiences at Universities of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota prior to returning to Tsinghua as a full professor and then Chinese Academy of Sciences from 1985 - 2020. He spearheaded the effort to appreciate and develop stem cell technologies and their unity to human health.  He led the first effort in China to develop the iPSC platform and uncovered insights such as Vitamin C activates histone and DNA demethylases to improve iPSC efficiency and the mechanisms associated with the transitions between mesenchymal and epithelial fates during reprogramming as well as normal development. His most recent hypothesis that cell fate is controlled by a common machinery has inspired him to explore further into the deep logic of life in both development and evolution.  He is now focusing on the genome which he believes to hold all the secret of life and also all mechanisms associated with cell fate control. He is re-dedicated himself to unravel the logic of life by focusing on the genome architecture that specifies cell dynamics and fate in normal development and diseases.   \\
