!!Pritty Patel-Grosz - Biography
\\
Pritty Patel-Grosz is Professor of Linguistics and director of the Super Linguistics Research Group at the University of Oslo. She was educated at University College London, and obtained a PhD in Linguistics from MIT. Her early interests include the syntax-semantics-pragmatics interface and psycholinguistics. She has conducted research on individual variables, agreement and anaphoric presuppositions. After establishing herself as a theoretical linguist, P. Patel-Grosz advocates for the emerging field of Super Linguistics (using the term ‘super’ in its original Latinate meaning ‘beyond’), whose goal is to expand the traditional boundaries of language and linguistics, by applying linguistic methodology to non-standard objects beyond language. She expanded her research program to investigate meaning in the natural world, specifically: how humans and non-human primates express meaning through body movement. P. Patel-Grosz conducted case studies in the linguistic analysis of gesture and dance in humans and non-human primates, and established proof of concept for new analytical and empirical (experimental) methodology. Her research on theoretical linguistic inquiry beyond human language received national financial support from the Research Council of Norway, and in the form of various awards career development funding from the University of Oslo (jointly totalling 500,000 NOK), and a large scale research grant (2 million Euros). In addition, she co-created the Super Linguistics Network (currently 267 members), spanning multiple sub-disciplines across the humanities and social sciences. As well as financing my own research, the funds in conjunction with the network created opportunities for researchers to disseminate their frontier research through workshops, summer schools, and a special issue. These activities contributed to the establishment of a new sub-field, Super Linguistics.\\ \\[{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW edit ppatel-grosz}][{ALLOW upload ppatel-grosz}][{ALLOW comment All}]
