Dr Francis Mégraud is Emeritus Professor of Bacteriology at the University of Bordeaux since September 2018. He obtained the diploma of Pharmacist and Doctor of Medicine at the University of Bordeaux. He studied later at Pasteur Institute Paris (Immunology), at the Institute for Medical Research, Camden, NJ, USA (Cell Biology) and at the Center for Disease Control, Atlanta, GA, USA (Epidemiology). He was Head of the Laboratory of Bacteriology at Pellegrin Hospital, Bordeaux, France until 2017 and he is a Member of INSERM U1312. He was Head of INSERM U853 from 2004 to 2015.\\

He created the National Reference Center for Campylobacters & Helicobacters in France in 1993, which he headed until 2017 and is one of the founding members and current Secretary of the European Helicobacter & Microbiota Study Group. He has been involved in the EHMSG yearly Workshops since 1988.\\

His interest for Campylobacters & Helicobacter pylori dates back to the early days after the discovery of these bacteria. He has been involved in epidemiological studies and clinical trials on H. pylori eradication. His main current interests are the role of H. pylori in gastric cancer and antimicrobial resistance. \\
