Prof Liu is a professor of control engineering and the head of the Advanced Control and Network Technology Research Unit in the University of South Wales. He was a holder of the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship of Germany. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and a Fellow of the IET.\\

Prof Liu has been conducting world-leading research in the general areas of networked control systems, control theory and industrial control applications. He has completed more than 60 research projects as a principal investigator, mainly funded by European Framework Programme 6, European Regional Development Funds, European Social Fund, European Union Structural Funds and EU industrial companies with over 7M British pounds. He has 680+ publications, including 10 books, 2 edited books, 330+ journal papers and 320+ conference papers with 20400 citations, 30+ Highly Cited Papers, the H-index 69 (by Google Scholar) and H-index 54 (by Web of Science). \\

Prof Liu was the general chair of the 2007 IEEE International Conference on Networking, Sensing and Control, the 2011 International Conference on Intelligent Control and Control and Information Processing, and the 2012 UKACC International Conference on Control. He has served as an Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Automation and Computing, an Honorary Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Advances in Internet of Things", and an editorial member of 9 international journals.\\

In view of Prof Liu’s outstanding research achievements, he was elevated to IEEE Fellow in 2011. He received the best paper prize for applications at the UKACC International Conference on Control in 1998, the best paper prize at the 13th International Conference on Automation and Computing in 2007, and the second prize of Chinese National Science and Technology Awards in both 2008 and 2015. He was named a Highly Cited Researcher by Thomson Reuters in 2014 and 2015, by Clarivate Analytics in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and by Elsevier in 2014-2020.\\ \\
