T.L. is PhD/MD since 1992, a professor of Clinical Chemistry (since 2002) and Chief Physician of the Department of Clinical Chemistry of Tampere University, Faculty of Medicine and Health Technology and Fimlab Laboratories, one of the largest (>1000 workers) clinical laboratory in Finland. Specialized/consultant physician in Clinical Chemistry since 1999, docent in medical biochemistry since 1996 (UTA) and docent of clinical chemistry since 2003 (UEF) and eMBA since 2013. Research interests: cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis plaque and vascular cell biology and biomarkers, combination of omics, functional genetics and epigenetics of complex traits/diseases and related bioinformatics. Over 1200 per-reviewed publications with over 120.000 citations and HI is 147. Over 100 Nature, Nature Genetics, Lancet, Science, Cell, JAMA, NEJM papers and as a highlight his work in collaboration and individually has led to the discovery of over 5000 novel genetic variants of complex traits helping their more-accurate DNA testing. PI of the genetic/epigenetic part of The Young Finns and The Finnish Cardiovascular studies. PI of Tampere Vascular study focusing on the use of “OMICS” techniques in the research of atherosclerosis. An active member of over 35 international consortia and EU/NIH funded projects, grant panel member/active reviewer of applications for 15 international funders/charities. Has given expert opinion from 12 academic doctoral theses, from 14 professor/senior lecturer/applications, referee over 200 times in 50 journals. Over 120 invited national and international lectures. Member of 9 different scientific societies (current/past). Opponent (2 times). Have participated on boards, committees, management groups, organizing of scientific education or congress meetings (>35 times).Supervised over 60 PhD, master and advanced studies and contributed in 75 other academic PhD theses. Total funding over 15. million euros. Recipient of the first annual Science Prize of the University of Tampere. Scientific work lead to 3 spin-off companies.
