!!Sven Kullander - Biography

Sven Kullander is a Professor emeritus of High Energy Physics at Uppsala University. He started his research career in 1961 at the Enrico Fermi Institute in Chicago and has continued his career at Uppsala University and CERN Geneva and has been a guest professor at Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg and Osaka University. He has worked in the fields of nuclear and particle physics, accelerator techniques and advanced instrumentation and measurements and  has published more than 200 scientific papers. In his physics research he has studied scattering by high energy particles from hydrogen as well as from other nuclei in the energy range from a few hundred MeV to 300 GeV. He graduated from Uppsala University where he was enrolled as a docent in 1971. He held the professorial chair in high energy physics between 1979 and 2001 at Uppsala University where he has been director of the Gustaf Werner Institute and its synchrocyclotron laboratory from 1979 to 1986, Head of the Department of Radiation Sciences from 1986 to 1989 and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology between 1989 and 1993. In the early 1990’s he initiated the movement of the magnet lattice of the CERN Cooler Storage Ring ICE to Uppsala where it was rebuilt into the CELSIUS cooler storage ring, the major facility of the The Svedberg Laboratory created in 1986. He initiated in  1983 the international CELSIUS-WASA collaboration, a collaboration between Swedish, Polish, German, Russian and Japanese scientists and he was its spokesman up to the late 1990s. He is currently the Chairman of the Energy Committee at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Vice President of the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC) where he also serves as the chairman of EASAC’s Energy panel. In recent years he has worked on different energy issues in particular bioenergy. \\

He has published about 200 papers in the fields of accelerators, instruments and methods, nuclear physics and elementary particle physics. \\
