Malgorzata Kossut has spent a lifetime in neurophysiological research. directed at the phenomena of neuroplasticity and focused primarily on sensory systems.  Her training has had a very international flavour with prestigious grants and fellowships to the USA, UK and Germany in both her formative years and when appointed to leadership positions at the Nencki Institute in Warsaw where she has based much of her career.\\

Her career has centred on an examination of sensory systems in animal models, mainly visual and olfactory, with a wide range of techniques, often at the front edge of methodological advances. \\

The impact of her work has also been felt in the clinical sphere. For example, she was appointed a chair of cognitive science at the Warsaw School of Social Science in 2009 to teach and she has published with collaborators on Huntington's disease.\\

Her European leadership in neuroscience included an active role in the foundation of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and she has received the highest honours for her leadership contributions in her own country.\\
