!!Veronika Kalmus - Biography

Veronika Kalmus is Full Professor of Sociology at the Institute of Social Studies, the University of Tartu. She obtained a M.Phil. in Media Studies from the University of Oslo and defended her PhD thesis in Sociology at Tartu. She has been a post-doctoral research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh. Since 2007, she has been the leader of the Estonian team of the EU Kids Online network and has served as an independent expert in the field of the Information Society and Media for the European Commission. She has led several national research projects, including a large-scale institutional grant “Acceleration of Social and Personal Time in the Information Society: Practices and Effects of Mediated Communication”. She has participated as a team leader in several international research projects (e.g., EU Kids Online I-IV, a H2020 project CATCH-EyoU). She has successfully supervised 11 PhD theses in Media and Communication, Sociology, Educational Sciences, and Area and Cultural Studies, and a post-doctoral fellow. She has published extensively in high-ranking international journals, co-edited two books (in Estonian) and contributed to many edited volumes in English and Estonian.\\
