Marko Juvan, MAE, is literary theorist and comparatist, head of the Institute of Slovenian Literature and Literary Studies at the Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU), and professor of Slovenian literature at the University of Ljubljana. Marko Juvan was born in 1960 in Ljubljana. In 1985 he graduated in Slovenian and Comparative Literature at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. He holds a PhD in Literary Studies (1993) from the U of Ljubljana. In addition to many short-term additional trainings in Poland and Germany, he spent a semester of postgraduate study at the U of Tübingen in 1990. In 1986 he became teaching assistant at the Department of Slavic Studies, U of Ljubljana. Since 1994 he has been teaching literary theory and Slovenian literature at the same university (since 2007 as full professor). Since 1996, his main affiliation is conducting research at the Institute of Slovenian Literature and Literary Studies (ZRC SAZU - Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts). He was first elected head of the Institute in 2011.

Juvan presented papers at around sixty scholarly conferences throughout Europe, in the US, Canada, South Korea, Japan, and Australia. He was visiting professor at the universities of Brno and Zagreb and lectured at the universities of Budapest, Munich, Hamburg, Prague, Reykjavík, Vienna, Ghent, Novi Sad, Česke Budejovice, and Granada. As member of the Slovenian Comparative Literature Association, ICLA/AILC, and REELC/ENCLS, he organized or co-organized several international conferences, a. o. on "Hybridizing Theory and Literature", "Writing Literary History", "Comparative Literature in the 20th Century", "Responding to Cosmopolitanism", "A Book: An Economy of Cultural Spaces", "The Spatial Turn in Literary Studies." He was member of the editorial boards of the Slovenian academic journals "Jezik in slovstvo" and "Slavistična revija"; currently he is among the edtiors of "Primerjalna književnost," "CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture," "Context", and "Slavica litteraria". He is co-editing ZRC SAZU collections Studia litteraria and Thought, Society, Culture. 2002-2006 he served as the president of the Slovenian Comparative Literature Association, 2007–2011 he was member of the Executive Committee of the European Network of Comparative Literary Studies (REELC/ENCLS), and 2008-2014 he was in the Committee on Literary Theory of the ICLA/AILC. Since 2013 he is serving in the Section Committee for Literary and Theatrical Studies of the Academia Europaea.

In addition to numerous articles and edited volumes in Slovenia and abroad - e.g., ''Prostori slovenske književnosti'' (Spaces of Slovenian Literature, 2016), ''World Literatures from the Nineteenth to the Twenty-first Century'' (special issue of the ''CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture'', 2013) - his recent book publications include ''History and Poetics of Intertextuality ''(2008), ''Literary Studies in Reconstruction ''(2011), and ''Prešernovska struktura in svetovni literarni sistem'' (The Prešernian Structure and the World Literary System, 2012).
