!!Maarit Jänterä-Jareborg - Biography

Prof. Dr. Maarit Jänterä-Jareborg holds the Chair of Private International Law and International Civil Procedure at Uppsala University since 1998. During four years (2004-2008) she was the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Uppsala University. She then took the initiative, together with members of the Faculty of Theology at Uppsala University, for a multidisciplinary research programme on the study of Law and Religion. The programme (including altogether 7 different faculties at Uppsala University) was elected and funded as a Centre of Excellence by the Swedish Research Council 2008-2018, and Jänterä-Jareborg acted as its deputy director until 2014/15.  Since end 2014 she is the acting President of the research foundation Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, Sweden's largest private research foundation, focusing on research in humanities and social sciences, law and religion included.   \\

Jänterä-Jareborg's research interests include private international law, international procedural law, family law - Swedish and comparative, law & religion, European union law and human rights. She has published extensively on these topics in Sweden and abroad.\\

Jänterä-Jareborg is an elected member of several academies and societies in Sweden and abroad, and has received honorary doctorates at the Universities of Oslo, Helsinki and Bergen. In addition she has received several prestigious awards.  She has broad international experience of guest-lecturing in various parts of the world (Europe, USA, Asia, New Zealand) and serving as the chair or member of board in various international research evaluations.  During her years at legal consult at Swedish Ministry  of Justice she was in charge of negotiating at an EU-level for Sweden in the field of international civil law cooperation.\\ \\
