Prof. Hwang started his fruitful relationship with Europe in 1996. His 12 months at Heinrich-Heine Univ., learning X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) techniques from the renowned Prof Strehblow, weren't just about acquiring skills; they were about forging connections. Those connections, nurtured over decades, would blossom into a vibrant network spanning the continent. In 2011, Prof Hwang being visiting prof. at Bordeaux Univ. (France) ignited new collaborations, while in 2022 a longer stay at Jülich Research Centre during the pandemic showcased his adaptability and unwavering commitment to research. He has also engaged in 2 separate M-ERA.Net projects, further expanding his network and influence across Europe. His participation in the Strategic Expert Group and reviewing European’s proposal demonstrated his commitment to shaping the future of European research. Prof Hwang and Prof Martin Winter from Muenster Univ. initiated a joint collaboration between Germany and Taiwan in 2016. More than 30 principal investigators from both sides could work as a team for 6 years (2 phases) – a testimony to Prof Hwang's ability to bridge cultures and foster trust. The project, a resounding success, expanded to a 3rd phase, its longevity reflecting his dedication and strength of partnerships he had built.\\
