!!Yong Geng - Biography
\\
After receiving his Ph.D on chemical engineering from Dalhousie University, Canada, Yong began his fellowship at University of Leipzig, where he collaborated with his German research partners to engage in eco-industrial park research. Then he joined National Institute for Environmental Studies of Japan as a NIES fellow and continued his industrial ecology research by investigating Japanese eco-towns until late 2008. After joining the Institute of Applied Ecology at Chinese Academy of Sciences in late 2008 he researched the problem of improving circular economy requiring high degrees of multi-disciplinary collaboration and innovation. He then has been invited as a national expert on circular economy and regularly met with the key officials in National Development and Reform Committee (the national ministry in charge of circular economy) to discuss how to prepare national circular economy policies. \\
\\
In 2014 Yong joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University and created a new joint research institute for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development with UNIDO ITPO Shanghai), an interdisciplinary institute that faculty from five schools. This institute has over 60 researchers, conducting all of its research in direct collaboration with large companies such as Baosteel, China National Grid and Conch Cement. This institute has worked with over 100 companies and promoted tools, such as one now delivering AI-based carbon footprint monitoring and automatic resource accounting. \\
\\
Since his return to China, he has been granted with several national key projects from both Natural Science Foundation of China and Ministry of Science and Technology of China. This includes the national key grant in eco-industrial parks, the national key international cooperation program with UNEP for integrated resource management, the prestigious national grant for distinguished young scientists, the national center for basic science of theory and application of resource and environmental management in digital economy era, the national major program on green and low carbon transformation, the national key basic research program on managing critical minerals through circular economy. Many of the knowledge outputs have been used by industry and government, including over 200 companies in the steel/iron sector, aluminium sector, cement sector and more across the construction and clothing sectors. \\
\\
Internationally he has served as a lead author for both assessment report 5 and 6 led by Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC) since 2010 and was recently selected as a distinguished fellow by World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and appointed as the current chair of the important Committee of Engineering and the Environment at WFEO. He was also invited to participate several EU-related research projects as co-investigator, covering fields of circular economy, critical minerals and climate change.\\ \\[{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW edit ygeng}][{ALLOW upload ygeng}][{ALLOW comment All}]
